The 8800GS plays games as well as any other 8800 series card with the exception of turning down the resolution and settings to play the games at acceptable levels. Unreal Tournament 3 was totally playable at 1280x1024 with 4x AA and 16x AF. I was unable to play it at 1920x1200 with those AA and AF settings, however, as the game would get laggy.
Crysis was best played at 1280x1024 with no AA and no AF. Turning on any kind of AA and AF caused the game to get into the single digit framerates at High settings. Crysis is one of those games that require a high-end video card to play with very high settings. DirectX 10 games require a lot of horsepower and the 8800GS is not up to the task. I enjoy playing the game on my 9800GTX card, but that card is over $200 more than this one is.
Rainbow Six Las Vegas 2 was released last year to a lot of acclaim as the latest in the Rainbow Six games. The game uses DirectX 10 features for the lighting and the pixel shading is improved over earlier Rainbow Six games. The game ran well on the 8800GS with resolutions of 1280x1024 and 4x AA smooth throughout the game. One thing I like about this type of game is the fast action when playing in a gunfight, which is why the lower resolution setting was playable to me.
Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare is the latest in a series of Call Of Duty games that has been around for four years. The game is based upon DirectX 9 graphics but is a lot of fun and came with this card. The game played comfortably on the 8800GS up to 1280x1024 with 4x AA and 16x AF. One nice thing about the addition of this game to the bundle is that the card costs around $110 online with this game it effectively lowers the price by 20-25 dollars.
