The specifications on AMD's new energy efficient AMD Athlon™ X2 4850e dual-core processor should look familiar to anyone who has owned a AMD X2 4800 as they are identical in every way. The clock speed of the CPU is at 2.5GHz, there are 64Kb of L1 cache per core, and two L2 caches of 512KB for each core. The CPU is designed to have a maximum thermal power usage of 45W, which is similar to the power draw of the earlier AMD Athlon X2 2300 CPUs.
The 4850e is built upon AMD's 65 nanometer Silicon on Insulator (SOI) process with 221 million transistors, the same as their other X2 CPUs. There are two CPU cores on the same die, each having its own L1 and L2 cache. The big push with the 4850e is the push towards a energy efficient CPU with the same performance as the bigger power drawing CPU. DDR2 memory up to 800MHz is supported by the 780G chipset. Today there is memory that clocks above that.
