In many ways the 9600GT performs admirably like an 8800GT with the 8800GT being a little faster in most games. Crysis plays like a champ on the 9600GT with 1280x1024 being stable at around 30 fps in most instances. Heavy fighting drops the frame rate to below 20 but this is playable on the 9600GT in most instances. The frame rate at 1680x1050 was not playable, averaging the high teen with High settings enabled.
STALKER Shadows of Chernobyl is another DirectX 10 game on the market. This game has been on our test bench since late last year. STALKER played wonderfully on the 9600GT with frame rates above that of the Diamond HD3850 cards in the same price bracket. 1680x1050 was totally playable with frame rates never dipping below 100 fps in the game on the 9600GT.
Unreal Tournament 3 is the latest in a long line of Unreal games that date back to the early Quake days. The first UT was developed by a company called Digital Extremes from Canada. The third installment improves the graphics, adds new maps and is generally a better game than the first two in my opinion. The 9600GT plays this DirectX 9 game with no problems with a steady framerate throughout at 1680x1050.
