TRITTON AX51 Headphones :: Out of the box

The AX51 headphones come in a nice package that is relatively easy to open, unlike a lot of other blister packs out there. Once inside we have quite a few items packed neatly inside.

You get a manual, soft carry bag, headphones, detachable microphone, and yes a power adapter. This is the first set of headphones I have ever had that need to be plugged into the wall in order to function. I guess eight speakers’ draws a lot of power.

The detachable microphone is a nice feature, its cord is encased in a flexible metal sheath, the microphone itself is sealed in a hard plastic. The flexible cable is great because it allows you to place it anywhere you want and it easily folds back out of the way when you’re not using it, for extended breaks from the MIC. You can detach it completely from the headphones. The cord from the headphones is extra long and pretty heavy gauge, this makes it easy to route to the back of your computer will still having enough cord to sit at a comfortable distance from your screen. The connectors are pretty standard with the exception of the power adapter. Though you can’t see it in the image there is a black mini jack connector hiding in there as well. These are after all surround sound headphones so you have audio support for front, center, and rear audio as well as a subwoofer.

The inline audio controller is pretty compact; it gives you control of sub, center, front and surround volume as well as a main volume control and MIC mute button. The main volume control is a jog wheel, so when you push it in it mutes everything. There is one LED in the center that lights up when the unit is on, it turns slightly purple when the MIC is muted.

The headphones themselves are constructed of a heavy duty plastic, they have a very durable feel to them, and even though there are eight speakers contained inside they are not overly heavy. The head band and ear cups are pretty soft and covered with a type of fake leather. The ear cups are big enough to fit over your ears. This makes them comfortable to where for long movies or gaming session. The headband is adjustable for really any size head. It takes about 3 seconds to adjust them to a comfortable size.
