Our test platform has evolved to support DirectX 10 titles like Bioshock, Lost Planet, STALKER and Crysis. The 3870X2 is hardly stressed with even the most demanding DirectX 9.0 game or demo, so the focus on the review is on the performance with those games.  We ran tests on both the standard video card platform and on Skulltrail without compatibility problems. The ultimate enthusiast platforms for gamers with the ability to run two HD3870X2s in Crossfire mode but as we only have one card that was not a possibility and drivers are not ready in any case according to our man Terry at ATI. Look for ATI to have drivers that support two X2 cards by mid March 2008. We write our reviews based on a combination of canned and real time tests for a balanced viewpoint.
