Microsoft Sidewinder Gaming Mouse Review :: Usage

So now we have the mouse, installed and configured its time to test it out. The first test was an old classic, Battle Field two. The game recognized the mouse just fine and performed flawlessly. I found the middle resolution (800Dpi) to be the best. It allowed me to move around freely without being overly sensitive. A nice feature of the macro key is that it can be programmed to perform an instant 180 degree turn. This feature came in handy every time someone tried to sneak up on me. The next game tested was Crysis, a game that to this day will murder any system that dares to run it at max graphics. Once again the mouse performed flawlessly. The 180 degree turn feature was cool for both catching enemies approaching from behind as well as some close quarter combat where you had to engage multiple targets at once; programmable macros on the other hand were not really useful except for setting up instant load outs.

The last game tested was Eve Online. Here the mouse’s macro capabilities really shined. The ability to chain your weapon activation to a single key was awesome, it allows you to execute an alpha strike that ensure whatever target you face feels the full force of your weapons systems instantly. And the fact that the macros can be configured on the fly means that as situations change you can re-assign the key to control other critical systems in the game, again overall a flawless performance.
