XFX Alpha Dog XXX 8800GT 256MB Review :: XFX Alpha Dog XXX 8800GT Gaming
Most people who only want to invest $200.00 or less into a video card are not the hard core gamer element, as that group of people usually spends much more on a high-quality 3D VGA solution. That said this card plays games at resolutions that most monitors support (1280X1024 through 1680X1050) and plays them quite well for the most part. Crysis plays okay, but is still a bit choppy at anything over 1280X1024, especially if you turn up the AA and HDR features. Having seen almost every VGA card in the last ten years I have come to find out that I am a picky SOB when it comes to technology and what I use. From a purely visual standpoint I feel that most users buying this card will find satisfaction, as many will just leave the settings at their balanced state and only do in-game adjustments to the visual aspects. We played all the games we had to throw at it in two different resolutions, 1280X1024 and 1680X1050 Widescreen. We do this as we have taken polls and these are the resolutions that most people play at making it the most viable results for the most people. You take a pair of these cards, and SLI them, they will play games at almost the level of NVIDIA’s Ultra cards. This could help you if you want to fully max out the AA and HDR settings for the best visuals possible, but most users will probably be happy with just a single card for most applications.
