There are many companies out there now making LCD panels unlike a few years back when only a select handful of companies had access to this type of technology. Like all products the LCD has began to mature and has expanded its technology to a number of growing companies who all make different grades of panels. HANNS-G uses panels from a company called Chemei, who also market their own panels, but have no clue how to sell themselves in America. In that same light however they sell their panels to other companies, including HANNS-G and Ingram Micro's V7 group to name a couple of big players in this game, and these folks know how to sell.

Cables

Driver CD/Manual
Upon opening the retail box I was greeted with a complete package ready to hook up the monitor to a variety of different sources. The monitor really had more cables in the box than any other monitor I have seen to date, and this is a great thing for those wanting to hook up their Sony Wii or other game console directly to the monitor. The plastic base is a bit flimsy, although it did work fine once attached to the monitor panel. It would not stand up to any type of real stress, like if it ever got dropped the plastic would most assuredly get broken. The panel itself is made of quality plastics and comes with a hard-shell screen surface that resists scratching and damage to the monitor's surface. Evan pesky children who cannot but help themselves to touch everything within their distance need not worry you, as the hard surface can not be damaged even by their sticky little fingers.

You can easily locate and control the monitors various functions as it is ergonomically located in the bottom front right hand corner and not off to the side where you can nether see the buttons, nor easily operate them. When the monitor is run in Analog Mode you get the most control choices in the monitors control panel. This is because when the monitor is connected digitally many of the controls are not evident as the settings are then automated for optimal performance. The contrast ratio is 1000-1 so there is a lot of room for tweaking the way the monitor looks to your own liking. Asus monitors have a function called Splendid that automatically has different monitor setting for alternate working environments you can switch to, but you can manually achieve those same results by tinkering around a bit with the HW223DP monitor's settings.

One other really cool aspect of the HW223DP is the fact that it comes with its own built-in 4-port USB hub, located conveniently on the left hand side of the monitor out of the way of cables getting in the way of your monitor view when used. All the connections such as the power, audio, DVI-Analog and main USB cable connection are located behind the back on the panel and are easily reached without disassembly. The monitor offers a fast 5ms response time, 300:1 brightness and a 1000:1 contrast ratio, which equates to very decent off the shelf features. The monitor is limed in its mobility and can only be tilted forward or backward by a small margin, no height adjustment is available as is a swivel function. We were able to get the monitor set up adjusted to our desired settings and clean up the mess in less than fifteen minutes, so it is a very simple and straightforward task to undertake. The HW223DP monitor is simple in its design, yet functional, and generally speaking ergonomic to the end-user.
