NVIDIA has released a new set of drivers for their 8800GTX and GTS cards, the 97.44, the second WHQL driver since the release of the new cards last month. The old drivers Control Panel is totally gone unless you hack the registry. The new CP is similar in function to the ATI Catalyst Control Center. There is a Change 3D settings with preview tab that shows you how each change in setting affects the image quality.

NVIDIA drivers have preset profiles for games. You can set a profile up for any game and when it is run, the settings you chose will automatically be applied. You can also set the settings separately for Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, Gamma Correct Anti-Aliasing, Transparency Anti-Aliasing, and other settings in the advanced settings tab. I would suggest using the advanced settings as they allow the most control of your card.

For years the end-user was able to use a registry hack called “Coolbits” to overclock their NVIDIA based video card. With the advent of the GeForce 8800GTX, Coolbits is no more. Now all video card tweaking of clock speeds such as core clock and memory are set in nTune. nTune also monitors video card temperature.
