Intel QX6700 Extreme Quad Core CPU Review :: Performance Summary

Author: Doc Overclock · 11-01-2006 · Category: Hardware - Processors

You may have expected stellar performance gains across the board with the QX6700 Extreme, but it only beats its brother the X6800 in programs that support the Quad-Core threaded environment. With clock speeds at 2.66GHz it's really hard to beat faster clocked CPUs in most desktop applications. Take the 3.8GHz for instance in many games this CPU would show to be a better performing CPU, but get a game to recognize all four cores and the QX6700 Extreme Quad-Core moves to the front of the pack. Gaming at the moment is not really an area in which the QX6700 Extreme gives you an edge, yes the improved L2 Cache will help a bit, but not enough to warrant changing CPUs if you already have a high-end or Dual-Core CPU.
