XFX decided to go the minimalist route with the hardware and software bundle of their 7900GS card. As the card is retailing for around $200, this is to be expected. One thing XFX could have done was include a game in the bundle, but that would entail a license fee to a game manufacturer increasing costs. The margins on a video card of this price range mean that the inclusion of a top game might drive the costs to an unacceptable level. Of course there are exceptions to this rule, as ASUS includes games with virtually every card they sell, but ASUS probably has sells many more cards than a company like XFX.

The hardware bundle on the XFX 7900GS is enough to get your feet wet. One DVI-I to D-Sub adapter is included, meaning that you need to purchase a second adapter to use two analog CRT monitors with the card. Most monitors manufactured today are of the digital variety, making two a luxury every monitor sold today is of the digital variety, making this an acceptable compromise. The TV-Out cable is to attach the 7900GS to a TV or HDTV set to play computer games on your television.

XFX chose to clock their card at 480MHz for the core, 30MHz higher than the reference clocks NVIDIA set. One thing about XFX is that all of their cards come with a Double Lifetime Warranty. If the card fails XFX will repair or replace it. This is the type of commitment to excellence I hope to see from every video card manufacturer. If you sell the card to another person The warranty can transfer, a rarity among manufacturers.

NVIDIA introduced their Forceware 9xxx series drivers a couple of months ago. This driver set has some improvements over the previous drivers. The Control Panel has been replaced by a new NVIDIA Control Panel. The 3D settings with preview tab allow you to pre-set the settings to your liking. Once the settings change, the revolving NVIDIA logo changes to reflect the effect being applied.
