Intel Core 2 Extreme / Core Duo Processor Review

For overclocking right out of the box the new X6800 Extreme is a masterpiece. Why? Well for starters it overclocked by 15% without any modifications to the system on an NVIDIA nForce4 motherboard and using standard air cooling only. With just a slight tweak to the Asus BIOS (We set the BIOS to automatically overclock the system by 15%) we were getting a posting 3.4GHz CPU that was stable and still running cool in the system. The possibilities for extreme overclocking are within the CPUs realm of performance and with better cooling and a few system setting changes I think that 3.8-3.9GHz may be an achievable goal. The X6800 Extreme has lots of overclocking headroom that is for certain.
