Scythe Kamariki II PSU Review :: Conclusion

Author: Benjamin Sun · 04-28-2006 · Category: Hardware - Power Supplies

A couple of troubling issues exist with the Kamariki II PSU. First, the PSU does not support high-end video cards in SLI or Crossfire. The other issue is the price is higher than PSUs in this class. Kamariki II retails online for $122.89, making it more expensive than many 600W PSUs including the Ultra-X 600 Tulatin reviewed recently. Turning on the computer with Crossfire X1900 cards caused the system to spontaneously reboot. Trying it with two 7900GTs in SLI mode also caused this issue.

Good points on the Kamakiri II include the silent operation, the steady power under load, and the myriad of connectors. I would like to thank our sponsors at Directron for providing the PSU for review, but can't recommend it for SLI or Crossfire use. It's a moot point in any event, as their own website recommends not using 6800 Ultra or QuadroFX cards (i.e. the high-end) and the X1900XTX requires power aplenty. Stability on the PSU was excellent with a single card and I really enjoyed the 9 Molex connectors, more than anyone needs on a Mid-Tower ATX case. Thanks to www.directron.com for providing the sample, you can purchase it here.
