The first game I fired up on the 7800GS AGP Extreme Edition was F.E.A.R.. First Encounter Assault Recon is the latest FPS (First Person Shooter) from Sierra. This is the scariest game I've ever played, making me jump out of my seat the first time the decaying corpse flashed on the screen, and the little girl scared me out of my wits. The 7800GS, coupled with a fast CPU, played this game with 0 problems up to and including 1280x1024 no AA no AF. 4x AA and 16x AF is a playable resolution, according to the benchmarks, but I felt the game wasn't totally smooth at that setting.
The second game I took for a spin with the 7800GS was Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. This is the 9th iteration of the popular flight simulator program. Today, it's a bit dated as it was released almost 3 years ago. The 10th iteration, Flight Simulator X, is due this year. The 7800GS played the game without a problem and smoothly throughout the resolution and settings. One thing about flight simulations is that they tend to require a ton of CPU power.
One of my favorite movies of all time was the original King Kong from the 1930s. The movie took the viewer from the initial finding of Skull Island to the climactic conclusion atop the Empire State Building with the airplanes. Last year Peter Jackson (Lord Of The Rings Trilogy) did a remake of the classic movie. Ubisoft, makers of Far Cry decided to release a game based upon the movie. King Kong the Movie game uses a lot of modern effects like Pixel and Vertex Shaders to show off beautiful water and the dinosaurs. The game played wonderfully on the 7800GS AGP Extreme Edition.
