Recently we updated our test system and test suite to more closely represent the latest games and benchmarks. Our old test suite with Aquamark, Final Fantasy XI the Benchmark 2, Serious Sam The Second Encounter and Gunmetal 2 was getting a bit long in the tooth. Our new test suite consists of Quake4, iD's latest FPS game, Doom3 the game from 2004, Far Cry, one of the better games of 2004, F.E.A.R., the latest game from Sierra Games and Call of Duty 2. I also added 3DMark06, Futuremark's latest "gamer's benchmark". Overclocking the ASUS X1800XT TOP was a very mixed affair. The default clock of the card was 693MHz. and 1.6GHz for the memory. Using ATI's Overdrive utility I was unable to get a stable overclock. It would reach 700MHz or even a little higher, but the card wouldn't run the benchmarks to its conclusion as it seemed to overheat. Being overclocked right out of the box does make for a fast card in any case, but a bit more headroom for overclocking would have been nice.
