F.E.A.R. played ok on the 6800GS single card. The game is one of the most graphically demanding games, using Pixel Shader 2.0 effects throughout. Playing F.E.A.R on a single 6800GS was a bit of a disappointment. The game was playable up to and including 1024x768 no AA no AF. In SLI mode, the game played well up to 1280x960 no AA no AF. I wouldn't suggest 4x AA 16x AF on anything less than a 7800GT as the game is sluggish even with 2x AA 16x AF.

The next game I tried with the 6800GS was Doom 3. Doom 3 was a game released last year at nearly the same timeframe as Half Life 2. On a single 6800GS I was able to play the game comfortably at 1024x768 no AA no AF. With two 6800GSs I was able to run relatively comfortably at 1024x768 16x SLI AA and 16x AF.

Similar performance can be found in the game Quake4. The latest game from ID Software, Quake4 is the sequel to Quake2 in story and function. Quake4 was widely praised by reviewers except for Tulatin on Gamepyre. In SLI mode Quake4 was able to play at 1024x768 with 16X SLI AA and 16x AF. Wit a single card the game was playable at 1280x1024 without AA and AF.
