I’ve really enjoyed my time with the ASUS EN7800GT video card. It is pretty amazing it’s been over 3 months since the announcement/release of the 7800GT. NVIDIA’s new practice of shipment the same day as the card is announced pays dividends. A lot of editors were burnt by ATI’s Crossfire launch leaving a wake of very unsatisfied MARCOM partners. I hope as we move forward all video cards announced by the major players ship simultaneous to launch. That’s just good business practice all around.
The bundled games were fun to play on the ASUS 7800GT. Joint Operations is a bit of a old game now, with graphics that are a bit outdated in today’s era of F.E.A.R and Battlefield 2, but it is a fun game if you haven’t tried it yet. Xpand Rally is a fun racing game I was glad ASUS provided and Project Snowblind is an excellent FPS.
ATI launched the X1800XL just today, but they seem to be in a rut and may be a company on the downward spiral if things keep going the way they are for this Canadian outfit The new card for one thing features slower performance to the 7800GT in some cases, higher performance in other cases, a slightly higher price, but an increased feature set including HDR with AA, I haven’t had the opportunity to play around with a card as of yet, and I cannot recommend a video card I’ve never used. So in the current time frame I have to give the nod to the 7800GT, because at the moment, in the price versus performance arena it comes out a winner. It looks as if ATI is playing the catch-up game once again.
