ASUS EN7800GT Video Card Review :: Bundle and Setup
   ASUS provides the card with everything needed to get started and then some. The hardware bundle consists of the video card, a dongle with S-Video Out, a DVI-I to D-Sub adapter (the card in my opinion should come with two but doesn’t), a CD case and a power adapter for the extra power the PCI Express x16 slot does not provide to the EN7800GT. Software includes the games Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising, Xpand Rally, and Project Snowblind. Joint Operations is a game in the vein of Battlefield 2. Xpand Rally is a racing game and Project Snowblind is a FPS (first person shooter). These games are a bit outdated, but a lot of fun. I really enjoy Xpand Rally, with all of the dirt in the race tracks.   ASUS also includes a comprehensive suite of programs to take advantage of your video card. Medi@Show is a Cyberlink program that allows you to make photo slideshows on DVD, retouch photos and remove red-eyes, add transition effects between slides, add titles to the slidshow and use a photo from the slideshow as a screensaver. PowerDirector is a video editing program from Cyberlink that allows you to enhance your videos and produce home movies with. ASUS DVD PowerDVD with an ASUS brand. ASUS tends to make specialized drivers for their video cards. There are special features including GameFace, SmartDoctor, and more. GameFace is an application that allows the gamer to talk to the opponent while playing the game and also use a webcam to participate in video conferencing while playing games at the same time. Smart Doctor is ASUS’s overclocking utility. Smart Doctor only allows you to overclock the card to 420/1040 core/memory. Using Coolbits, I was able to stably overclock to 475/1050 core/memory.   Setup of the ASUS 7800GT went without incident. The ABIT NI8-SLI motherboard we use for testing booted right away with the EN7800GT installed. One thing ASUS has done is include a metal rail over the top of the PCB. This provides protection of the video card, when in a case. The “Golden Finger” that holds the SLI bridge in place is located in the correct area of the video card to match with other 7800GTs. Once I seated the card, and rebooted the system, I installed the 77.77 drivers off ASUS’s Driver CD to try out the ASUS applications. Discuss This Article
