XFX 6600GT SLI Video Card Review :: Conclusion
XFX really went all-out in the packaging of the 6600GT. The inclusion of 3 games is excellent for the targeted price of $199 USD for this card. Many video card manufacturers don't include a single game or demo with their cards. Performance-wise, the XFX 6600GT fits exactly in line with what I expect. The card delivers outstanding performance for the money in most respects outdoing the competition, the x700. I use a 6600GT card every day in one of my side computers, an SB95v2. While a X800XT and a 6800GT is available for me to use, I find those cards a very tight fit into the small form factor PC. Add to that the 6600GT plays the games that I play at the moment without hesitation, and I give the nod to the XFX 6600GT as a good purchase for the price point. I really laud XFX for being different with the packaging. SLI brings the performance of two 6600GTs nearly equaling the performance of a 6800GT in some instances. That's the benefit of buying an SLI system and adding more performance. Negatives of this card are few. I was able to put the two cards in a A8N-SLI and the Gigabyte GA-8N SLI without problem. I've heard that the competing X800 card is faster but I personally don't have any experience with that specific model of X800. Shader Model 3.0 games are few and will likely remain a few until late last year when every card from every video card manufacturer will support it or even more features with the release of Longhorn. Of course, NVIDIA is on the verge of releasing a new card in a matter of days called the 7800 GTX, according to some sources. Hopefully, we'll see a mainstream card based upon that chipset to replace the 6600GT sometime later this year. But you can always wait to buy another card. Personally, at this time and for my uses, the 6600GT fits the bill in terms of price, features, and performance. Contents:Discuss This Article
