Like Centon, Wintec is not a very popular name in the enthusiast market. And like Centon, they've been around for a very long time. They've been in the memory business ever since the 80's and mainly cater towards servers and value RAM. Now they've released a whole new line dedicated for enthusiasts. The Amp-X is the overclocking and gaming memory to have. The Amp-X comes with black heatspreaders. There isn't anything extremely fancy about the memory but it does have decent looks.

The Amp-X comes rated at 337MHz with latencies of 4-4-4-10 at a voltage of 1.8v. Wintec is also generous with their voltage rating, and makes it more appealing to enthusiasts. Checking underneath the heatspreaders, I could tell that they use the same "fatty" Micron chips. I knew right away that these were capable of reaching low latencies. I double-checked with Wintec and they knew that it was capable but only rated it for 4-4-4-10 mainly because of safety reasons. Being new to the enthusiast market, they're not going to want to deal with the many complaints and hassles with RMA. You'd be surprised at how many people out there can't follow instructions to make memory operate correctly.

Because these sticks use the low latency chips, I made my first system boot with the memory at 266MHz and latencies at 3-2-2-8. No surprise here, the system booted up just fine. The memory is rated at a high frequency of 337MHz, so my main focus with the memory will be its ability to run low latencies at that speed, and speeds beyond. At 337MHz, the Amp-X allowed rather good timings of 4-3-3-10. Even though it used the same chips found in the Corsair, it was unable to make the cut of 337MHz with 3-2-2-8. The latencies of 4-3-3-10 is still good though and allowed the memory to hit the ceiling of 367MHz.
