One nice thing about mid-range cards today is the fact that the performance in games is actually higher than last year's high end. I like to include a section of real-world gaming experiences with the cards I review.
The ASUS eXtreme N6600GT played Doom 3 wonderfully well. I was comfortable playing the game at 1280X1024 resolution in High Quality mode. That's simply amazing for a $200 MSRP video card. I was not able to find any problems with the image quality in Doom 3 and it was an enjoyable experience overall.
Other games I tried with the ASUS eXtreme N6600GT include Rome: Total War, Need For Speed Underground 2 and Flight Simulator 2004. All of these games were playable at 1024x768 32 bit with 2X AA and the experience with the 6600GT can be characterized as nice.
