ASUS has been around making computer components for over 20 years and is a Tier-1 Taiwanese motherboard manufacturer. Personally, I prefer ASUS to some of the competing brands due to the packaging, the quality components, and the care that they put into each of their parts. In recent years, my primary gaming system had an ASUS motherboard and video card for the majority of the time.

NVIDIA has been around making video card chips and related components since 1993 when Jen Hsun Huang founded it. Today, NVIDIA is a world leader in graphics related technologies with revenue approaching $2 billion USD in revenue. That is a huge jump compared to a few years ago.

NVIDIA announced their "NV4x" architecture in May of 2004. It seems hard to believe that it was almost a year ago that they released the 6800 Ultra to the public in retrospect. Two thousand and four was a year characterized as a year of limited supply of the high-end cards from both NVIDIA and ATI, which was a bit unfortunate, as the cards were in high demand. NVIDIA released the 6800 Ultra, the 6800GT, the 6800 for the high-end enthusiast crowd. The mid-range crowd was appeased with the 6600GT and 6600, and the 6200 made up NVIDIA's low-end segment of the NV4x architecture. ASUS announced their 6800 Ultra and GT cards at the same time NVIDIA announced their new architecture. Recently, ASUS also announced cards based upon the 6600GT I am reviewing here. So let us see what the ASUS EAX 6600GT has under the hood.
