AMD Sempron Versus Intel Celeron Review :: Conclusion

AMD has struck back at the budget market and the Sempron proves it is a solid competitor for this market. Although I am still miffed by AMD's older design of the XP CPU when it comes to the Socket 462 Sempron the 3100+ is based on AMD's latest design. I am more pleased by the new design and the 3100+ offers a better performance ratio to boot when compared with its Socket A 2800+ counterpart. Really the whole direction of this review was supposed to be how well both Sempron's performed and how you can build a sub $500.00 system that would work well for the general user group. I think we did a good job in these areas and you can see for yourself how easy it is to build a system for around $450.00 from either Intel or AMD.

AMD has proved that they can now seriously compete with Intel in the mid-level market as well as on the high-end front of the PC world and this is something that will probably shake the Intel boat around a bit as they are used to dominating both these arenas. AMD has never come across to me as a company out to beat Intel, they just want to compete and have a viable product for the masses. In this they have succeeded magnificently and for the user this is always a good thing as choice is one of the options in life we take for granted all too often. The Sempron delivered what it promised and has proved to be a very functional CPU line for the budget system integrator and entry-level user.
