Gigabyte 6800 Ultra Review

The hardware bundle on the Gigabyte 6800 Ultra is adequate. I would have liked to have seen GIGABYTE include a Y-splitter so that you could split the 2 power connectors onto one. The inclusion of the two DVI-I to D-Sub converters is a definite plus, as you can use dual CRTs or dual DVI monitors with them.

The software bundle is excellent. Thief 3 was released a month or two ago in May. Check out Tulatin's review of Thief on Gamepyre. In this game you take the role of a Thief trying to complete some tasks and finish the game by stealth. It's a DirectX 8.1 based game with use of Pixel Shader 1.4 effects. The GEFORCE 6800 Ultra easily breezes through this game with maximum resolutions and settings being playable throughout (1280x1024 4x AA, 8x was playable throughout with a Athlon 64 3200+ and 512 MB of memory.

Joint Operations is NovaLogic's latest game. Novalogic developed such games as Commanche and Black Hawk down. In JO you take the role of a soldier either in the JO group or the Indonesian rebels. The game has huge maps and up to 150 players can play the game at the same time. It's a lot of fun to attack a convoy with anti-tank missiles or take a vehicle like the LACV and assault the enemy. The inclusion of the two games makes this one of the more modern game bundles for graphics cards available. Playing JO's training missions was extremely smooth and uneventful. In fact the game went almost too fast for me.
