In this round of tests we take a look at the performance values of the PCI Express VGA cards versus their AGP counterparts. As you can see the results vary a bit, but in essence there really is no seen performance gain over the AGP 8X by the 16X PCI Express slot. This is due to the almost non existing support that is currently available for the PCI Express bus. The thing is though, by the time the developers have fleshed out code to take advantage of the features available on the current line up of PCI Express cards, there will be a whole new batch of cards on the market with features way beyond what is seen now. The real benefits of PCI Express will show themselves in applications that require multiphase communication with the rest of the system. Applications like video streaming and editing can now be offloaded to the GPU, freeing up valuable CPU power to handle other tasks.
