The SLK-948u was installed and tested on the following system:

  • Motherboard: Soltek SL-85MR3-R
  • CPU: Intel Pentium 4 1.70GHz Willamette
  • RAM: 512Mb Crucial PC2700 DDR CAS 2.5
  • Power Supply: Antec Smart Power 400w
  • Video Card: VisionTek GeForce3 Ti 200
  • Case: Antec 1030SX SOHO
  • Sound Card: SoundBlaster LIVE! 5.1 Digital
  • OS: Windows XP Pro SP1

Arctic Silver III was applied to the CPU and heatsink base instead of the white silicone paste, and the system was run for a minimum 72 hours before testing began. The tests consisted of:

  • 3DMark 2001 SE (CPU/Memory/Graphics)
  • PCMark 2002 (CPU/Memory/Graphics/HDD)
  • SiSoft SANDRA Burn-in (CPU/Memory/Graphics/HDD)
  • Neverwinter Nights (CPU/Memory/Graphics)
  • BurnIn Test Pro v3.0 (100% CPU load)
  • Overclocking (1.70GHz and 1.70v stepped up to 2.13GHz and 1.85v)

All temperatures are ± 2° C and the fan speed is ± 50 RPM. A CompuNurse thermal probe was used to obtain the temperatures. The thermal probe was attached with the end of the probe stripped and touching the CPU die. MBM5 was used for the fan speeds and under-die temps. Ambient temperature remained a steady 70° F. I allowed the system to return to idle for 20 minutes in between each test. Here now are the scores:
