Cooling: Thermalright SLK-948u Review

Since first coming out with the SLK family of heatsinks with the SLK-600, Thermalright has constantly updated this line to keep up with the cooling demands of each new generation of CPUs. The latest incarnation in this excellent line of heatsinks is the SLK-948u. This is quite a unique heatsink in that not only can it be used for all Socket 478 P-4 applications, but it can be used for the newest AMD 64 processors as well. Sporting a re-designed base, lots of mounting hardware and the ability to use a variety of fan sizes, one would immediately think that this must be a guaranteed sure-fire winner in the war on CPU heat. Will the SLK-948u continue in the SLK tradition and deliver cool temperatures as promised, or will it turn out to be the black sheep of the family? Read on friends, and let's see how well it does on my P-4 system. Special thanks to Jim Wei at Thermalright for sending in this unit for testing and review.
