Now that you've picked your jaws up off the floor, go back and LOOK AT THOSE SCORES AGAIN!

To say that I am completely blown away is an understatement. I truly never expected another air-cooled heatsink to out-perform the MCX-462. Not only did the Kamakaze do that, it did it in every test but one. Since finishing up testing, I've thrown every CPU intensive program and game that I have at it and they all ran flawlessly while overclocked. So I did what I hadn't been able to do till now. I increased the overclock. As I write this, my little 1.47GHz XP1700+ is now running at 2.20GHz! An additional increase of another 100MHz above the old overclock, and not one hic-up! What's the CPU temperature right now, you ask? With a couple of browsers, Outlook and Word going, it is 31.8°C at full fan speed. And that's another thing. While the fan is rated at 37dBA at full throttle, I'm here to tell you that there is no way it is that loud. I can hear the heatsink fan just above the case fans and they are on low. It does not produce a whine or high pitch noise at any speed.

Ok, so despite the amazing cooling performance shown here, not everything is all skittles and beer. I feel that the clamping mechanism, while going in the right direction, needs to be re-worked so that there is no chance of CPU damage when installing. Also, a fan guard MUST be included for protection. Finally, the instructions need to be a lot clearer. Outside of those three items, this is my new favorite heatsink, and it has found a home on my now "uber overclocked" system. Coming in at a street price of around $34.95, this is a very affordable heatsink. If this is the type of performance we can expect from Scythe, then I eagerly look forward to their next products! I am extremely pleased to give the Kamakaze my heartiest recommendation and an Editor's Choice Award!
