Anyone who has used a CD/DVD device in the past will find familiarity in this unit as using it differs not a bit with the only real difference being in using the various software used for burning DVD's. The standard still is not set as to what will dominate the market; will it be the plus standard or the minus standard? For now this is almost irrelevant to the user as minus media can sometimes be found a bit cheaper but both are usually around the same price. The 4410 is based off the singular plus/+ format that has been adopted by many companies and until recently the lines were drawn in the sand as to who used what format. That line has been erased now and most companies are making a drive that supports both standards and I am sure even as this posts AOpen is working on a new drive that accepts both the +/- formats and works at 8X speeds. The ability to burn rewritable DVD at 4X speeds is rather new itself and AOpen was one of the first companies to offer this feature on their drives and they are going to be one of the first to offer their own line of 8X drives as well. You can use the drive for many different tasks including writing CD-R media at 24X and CD-RW media at 10X which although not the fastest speed available it will still suffice in any case. You can use Direct-CD to use your drive like a 4.7GB hard drive or backup device depending on your needs. You can also use the 4410 to watch your DVD movies with the included Power-DVD software.
