CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz (C) Northwood Review :: Test Setup
I used a fresh Windows installation for all testing done here in the lab, the system was restarted prior to every test run as well for optimal performance results. Windows XP was installed with all SP1 upgrades and the latest Catalyst 3.5 drivers from ATI were used which yielded some fairly improved scores in the 3D area of the test when compared to previous results and actually seemed more compatible with games as well. I have had the 3.2GHz for a couple of weeks now and I have seen no known bugs or other hardware issues in the entirety of my experiences. I used the 3.2 GHz CPU in the system this review was written on and it has been my desktop chip in my everyday computer use since its arrival with nothing negative to report other than the fact I a had to pull it from my system to run the tests. All Intel tests were run with Hyper-Threading enabled and all memory timings set at an SPD speed of 2.5ns for all systems. Overclocking was achievable and the 3.2GHz ran very stabile at 3.5GHz running the memory speed at over 1000MHz, which was about a 9% increase in overall CPU speed and about a 4-5% performance gain was achieved when the system was configured in this manner. I decreased the clock speed to 14 and turned up the juice on the PSB to 250MHz while increasing the CPU voltage to 1.85v.
