Systems: MSI MEGA PC Review :: Final Thoughts

Pictures are supposed to tell a thousand stories but I find a thousand words to be a much better descriptive factor when talking about a PC as many readers want an in-depth discussion about the product at hand in addition to the pretty pictures. This little unit has so many features that it is amazing that it can all be put inside of such a small footprint PC and still function properly. I was quite impressed with what was offered with the MEGA PC and its performance was on par or better than its peers in the same arena. Like I said in the setup section there are a few design issues that need to be addressed and that can be fixed easily with a little factory readjustment so I won't kick them too hard on this subject.

MSI has a winner on their hands with this little unit as the pros outweigh the cons in the big picture as the only drawback to this thing is the assemble difficulty and that really does not damper the overall effectiveness of the MEGA PC as that is another issue altogether. This is about the sixth SFF unit I have evaluated and it is seriously a contender for top dog in this arena. The overall effect of the unit is a strong one, from the way it looks to the way it performs making it a product worth mention and qualifying it as an Editors Choice product here at the Motherboard Homeworld. There are additional features available on this unit if used in unison with MSI's own brand of DVD or CDROM/CDRW drives that were never quite clearly explained but some type of options are available if you use them in lieu of another brand.

Good job MSI with a little design modification this could be the perfect SFF barebones system for the P4 platform. I have heard grumblings of longer than previous RMA times at MSI but all returns are making it with 14 working days from my research so that is still a very reasonable turn-around time all things considered. MSI spoiled its customers for years with faster than 5 day return service but as the business has changed so has the days of the insane cash cow that the PC industry once was. The service, quality, support and commitment that MSI has built their company on remains strong in many pertinent areas that benefit the end-user. I have always been a solid fan when it comes to choosing my parts and MSI products have always been in my target range when shopping PC parts.
