The new C3 processor from VIA is based on an advanced new CoolStream architecture. This next generation VIA C3 processor will be available at speeds starting at 1GHz and includes new digital media performance features, including support for four new pipeline stages, SSE multimedia instructions, Step-Ahead Advanced Branch Prediction, efficiency- enhanced 64KB Full-Speed Exclusive L2 cache with 16-way associativity, and a full-speed FPU. The CPU itself performs about at the same level as the Pentium 3 Tualatin which was very efficient for most desktop applications and is still viable today.
When used in conjunction with the VIA Apollo CLE266 chipset, the new VIA C3 should deliver exceptional performance for most of your critical productivity, Internet, and digital media applications this includes multimedia slideshows, web browsing, digital video, and MP3 and DVD playback. The CPU runs exceptionally cool and does not require the use of an active cooler to insure solid system stability allowing for much smaller system designs with less moving parts.
The VIA Eden C3 is built using the industry's most advanced 0.13 and 0.15 micron manufacturing processes and the ESP processor core provides the industry's lowest power and highest performance pure x86 embedded processing engine. Based around the industry standard x86 architecture, the VIA Eden Embedded System Platform is fully compatible with Microsoft Windows XP, Windows, Windows CE, Windows XP Embedded and the latest Linux operating systems and applications. Featuring the world's smallest x86 processor die size and a highly efficient design, the VIA Eden ESP processor core can deliver highly efficient thermal distinctiveness that not only minimizes power consumption but also make it ideal for systems using or requiring a non-active cooling designs. As shown in the table below, with an operating voltage ranging from only 1.05 to 1.2 volts, the thermal design power requirements of the VIA Eden ESP processor core are as low as three watts, which is up to half that of competing CPU products.
