Cooling: Thermaltake Volcano 9 Review :: Conclusion

Author: Tolemac · 10-18-2002 · Category: Hardware - Cooling

As you can see, with the exception of overclocking with the fan at the lowest setting, this unit did an excellent job of keeping my Athlon XP pretty cool under fire. While not of the same cooling ability as the Volcano 7+, it still does very well and is very easy to work with. Despite the fact that at the highest fan setting you will not be able to hear a gun go off next to you, the ability to adjust the fan in so many ways more than makes up for it. The real winner here is in fact the fan and its adjustability. The settings are pretty endless, so you will be able to perfectly fine tune your system to meet both your cooling and hearing needs.

With a great retail price of between $17.00 and $35.00, this is a very value and performance oriented heat sink that should find many a home with both PC enthusiasts and casual users.

    Pros:
  • Multitude of fan speed adjustments
  • Copper plug
  • Good size, should fit 99% of mobos
  • Excellent clip design
  • Very nice look and finish
  • Variable fan switch
  • Thermal sensor with thin wires
  • Great cooling
    Cons:
  • At full speed, it sounds like a lawn mower and a hair dryer combo!
  • Not really a con, but I'd like to see this fan solution on a full copper body sink like the Volcano 7+
