Rackmount Server: Aberdeen Stirling S15 Dual Xeon :: Conclusion

How do you test a server properly? If you don't have 60+ clients and time to setup and run Netbench, Web bench and Server bench there is no easy way. I installed Windows 2000 Server with all necessary drivers and I ran a memory test through the weekend. I recently installed a Stirling S15 as an application server for a company which manufactures jet plane glass. It was connected to a Cisco Gigabit backbone switch and services 300 users. It has been running for three weeks now without a hitch. I cannot think of a better way to stress load a server.

Add-on card and PCI configuration could be easier. You have to know what you are doing when installing chipset, SCSI, and system drivers. A single click install or an easy to follow, step by step, driver installation would be great. You have to create diskettes for the ethernet drivers from CD. Actually it is no big deal, if you are installing a Server OS with a dual processor system, you should have experienced with these things.

This is a sleek, powerful, and robust Server. It is easy to service and reliable. Every detail is cleverly designed. I touched the heatsinks after running tests for hours and it was not hot. You can change or add parts in minutes without any hassle.

The package was complete. You can find drivers, server software, rails, and installation hardware for mounting the rack.

The conclusion is, if you want to pay double the price for an Incredibly Boring Machine, I say think again!
