Test setup

All of the tests were run on newly formatted drives for accuracy and ran with Prime 95 for over 24 hours for stability. All tests were done with the CPU clock set at its default setting. These settings varied from board to board as some boards are set from the factory pre-overclocked by up to 37MHz and this adds a little boost to their overall performance.

Performance results

As you can see from the tests results there is no clear performance winner here as both CPU's ran neck to neck in all the tests and no one was a hands down champion in this arena. If you are looking for performance both CPU's do a more than adequate job of running your system with AMD slightly ahead in the 3D department and Intel just slightly in office applications on these platforms. The CPU's ran without error through all the tests run. For overclocking the P4 2.0GHz did outperform its AMD counterpart as the XP 2000+ is really pushing its .18 Micron technology to the maximum already. I am sure as soon as AMD switches to their new .13 Micron CPU that the table will turn again in their favor.
