Silverstone Raven 3 (RV03) Case Review

Mon, 2011-10-03 16:59 -- B. Ramirez

Well we’ve had a good look now at this new case from Silverstone. It definitely follows the same theme as their previous Raven cases. What makes this one so different from the others is that from a glance you really wouldn’t think that it was a Raven. Their other Raven cases featured a very obvious look that made them really stand out. This one looks a bit more traditional, but still utilizes most of the same features that made the Ravens so popular and even adds a few of its own.

This case is going to either be something that you’ll really love or you’re going to hate it. Its looks are very stylish and futuristic, but it also has a lot of functionality.  With the 90 degree motherboard orientation your high-end components should stay pretty cool. You do have the option to add your own fans to their included drive cage. One other thing that I’d like to note is that the way that the 180mm air penetrators are staggered at the bottom of the case is very interesting. If you look at them you can see that one is located a little further under the motherboard tray than the other. This should actually help to improve air-flow to any drives that you have located behind the motherboard tray. This makes placement of hard drives in this area ideal. So Silverstone really has thought of just about everything.

To wrap this up let me just say that the styling is going to be up to your own personal preference. You will also have to keep in mind the size of your power supply. Some of the longer power supplies are going to have an issue fitting into this case due to the way the power supply is mounted. As far as everything else goes this is just about the perfect full tower case. When you take into account that it currently retails for about 140 dollars you really can’t go wrong. For a full tower case to come with all of these features and be priced so economically it’s no wonder that Silverstone stands out as one of the best case manufacturers on the market. If you are looking for a full tower case that can handle just about any hardware you can throw at it, and you want it for a reasonable price, this is the case for you. Its styling might not appeal to everyone, but for the features and the price it just can’t be beat. This is beyond a doubt an Editor’s Choice Award Winner here at Motherboards.Org!

This case comes with a feature that I really wish more manufacturers would incorporate. This is that all of the included intake fans have dust filters! These are very easy to remove and clean as well. At the bottom of the case are two 180mm air penetrator fans that have corresponding air filters located under the case.
