 Motherboard: ASUS X79 RAMPAGE Extreme

  • CPU: Intel Core i7 3820 At 3.6GHz
  • Memory: CORSAIR VENGEANCE 16GB DDR 3
  • CPU Cooling: Intel Stock Liquid Cooler
  • Hard Drive: Western Digital 2TB Caviar Black EARS
  • VGA Card: Sapphire Dual-X HD7970 On Overclocked BIOS
  • Open Air Testing: Danger Den Torture Rack
  • Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 Patched
  • AMD Driver Version: 12.4 W Catalyst Control Center

All tests were run with the cards BIOS switch to its overclocked state, the CPU was run at stock speeds. All tests were run a minimum of three times and balanced for accuracy. We run the tests with programs and software that anyone can easily get or can recreate on their own system if they so wish to do so. For this review we tested the card at a resolution of 1920X1080 which is currently the most common resolution used in North America. I also played many game titles at 2560X1600 and there was not a noticeable difference as far as my eyes could see other than a few hiccups here and there when the game had lots of things going on onscreen, but not enough to complain about. All in-game seeting were at their highest values and with DX11.

Superior cooling and instant overclocking make the Sapphire Dual-X HD 7970 a step above the usual reference based cards and having the protection of its dual BIOS makes it very overclocker friendly, always a great thing!
