Sapphire HD 7770 Vapor-X GHZ Edition Review And Benchmarks

The HD 7770 GHz Edition carries all of the same feature compatibility as the other models of the 7XXX series line with the exception of amount of cards it can crossfire with.  Let’s take a quick glance at some of the supported features and what they mean to you.

Here is the Vapor-X cooling technology which is Sapphires naming for their custom cooling solutions offered on their performance model or non reference cards.  Using a vapor cell at the GPU contact point it makes for a very efficient cooling design offering not only cooler performance but also less fan noise due to the lower thermals.  A side benefit to the cooler is that with the lower thermals the card will have more headroom for more overclocking potential.

Something that has been supported for a few generations of AMD GPU now is the EyeFinity technology.  This allows for multiple displays (3+ in most cases) to allow for some amazing panel configurations and extreme surround visual gaming environments.  For the EyeFinity to work with this card at least one display would have to be DisplayPort compatible, but when running this kind of configuration we see no reason why you wouldn’t have one.

AMD has some tricks up its sleeve with its new architecture, one of them being Powerplay with Zerocore power technology.  Powerplay is AMD’s answer to throttling power and speed according to usage and GPU loading.  This allows for when load is low such as browsing the web or email the card can throttle down and cut power significantly which will reduce power usage and also heat as well.  Zerocore is a newer technology for users who are utilizing AMD Crossfire mode the 2nd or further card could power off to save power and lessen heat output when in low or no load environments.

Sapphire has been hard at work to optimize every aspect of their boards and the component builds that go into them.  One area they highlight is the specialized Black Diamond model chokes they include which offer not only lower thermals but better power efficiency.  This will pay dividends in not only power efficiency but overclock ability of the card which means some free performance for an even better bang for the buck.

I game daily and if I was looking for a good all purpose card I would be hard pressed not to look at the Sapphire Vapor-X 7770 as it just works.
