Ivy Bridge Unveiled: A look Inside the Intel Core i7 3770K

Mon, 2012-04-23 22:16 -- Elric Phares

The core speed of the new Intel 3rd Generation i7 3770K comes in at 3.5GHz and with Intel’s speed boost the system automatically adjusts the CPUs core to 3.9GHz, but this is not truly an overclock, but merely a temporary performance boost. On our tests bed we used the new ASUS Maximum V Gene with the new Cooler Master TPC 812 as our cooling solution along with the i7 3770K and were able to achieve a solid 4.6GHz without the need for additional cooling or voltage increases. This is very good overclocking, especially in light that we only had to use one switch in the BIOS to make this happen. The ASUS UEFI BIOS makes it very easy to OC your system as it gives you automatic settings from 4.6 through 4.6 by a simple settings change. With additional cooling and more time I fee an easy 5.0 and with a phase unit even more.

With the release of Ivy Bridge, Intel did not reinvent the wheel, but they did make a better tire to grip the road you're on. Ivy Bridge breathes just enough new life into the desktop environment to at least keep things interesting through the summer season and show a positive direction for the future of embedded graphics.
