Here we see a comparison between the Sandy Bridge 2nd Generation Core i7 2600K and the new Ivy Bridge 3rd Genration Core i7 3770 in both heat and temps using a Swiftech 220 Edge Cooling system and HD water block. Notice that on idle the new 3770 uses 2W less, but when the CPUs are actually under full load we see the 3770 running at almost the same temps, but the new 3770K uses 10 less watts than the previous generation 2600K.

With the release of Ivy Bridge, Intel did not reinvent the wheel, but they did make a better tire to grip the road you're on. Ivy Bridge breathes just enough new life into the desktop environment to at least keep things interesting through the summer season and show a positive direction for the future of embedded graphics.
