The node 605 can take up to a full-sized ATX motherboard. However, there are caveats to both the motherboard support as well as graphics card and power supply support. If you plan on installing a slimline optical drive, you cannot install an ATX motherboard — only mATX or smaller motherboards are allowed with an optical drive. And graphics card/power supply support depend on the number of drive bays and drives installed, as these lie in the path of the rear of the expansion slots and power supply mounting position. Review carefully the product sheet available via the Fractal Design’s website (www.fractal-design.com) on limitations and size compatibility before ordering your components.
The two white-finished drive bays each support two 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch HDD or SDD drives, and are mounted along top rails with two small screws. These bays and supporting rails feel quite substantial and should well support the drives, and the rubber mounting grommets should provide good vibration isolation and contribute to reduced noise from hard drives.
Examining the front-panel components from the inside, the power button support has the typical plastic “legs” that enable the case button to move back and forth, but with longer sections of plastic than I’ve seen in some other cases, which ought to reduce the risk of it breaking due to wear from use — something I’ve run into with one of my current computer cases within the first year of use. Mounting hardware for the front panel ports, and internal wiring, all looks top-notch.
Mounting offsets for your motherboard, miscellaneous screws, wire ties and optical drive mounting rails are all included. The case comes with two 120mm fans installed, and has spots for one more 120mm fan and two 80mm fans. Lastly, the removable top cover comes with a thin layer of sound-deadening material to further reduce noise emissions from the case.
