Veeam and Ingram Micro Partner on Pre-Integrated Backup Solutions

Available through Ingram Micro, the new offerings combine Veeam BDR products with server hardware and storage software from Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Cisco.

Veeam Software has launched new pre-assembled solutions combining its own backup and disaster recovery software with hardware and storage systems from Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Cisco Systems Inc.

Integrated and distributed by Ingram Micro Inc., the new offerings officially reached market during the Irvine, Calif.-based distributor’s ONE conference in Las Vegas, which concludes tomorrow.

A purpose-built backup appliance targeted at SMBs in search of simple, cost-effective data protection as well as larger businesses looking for scalable, flexible, and easily-deployed BDR options, the new Veeam Availability Solution for HPE StoreOnce comes with an HPE ProLiant DL380 server running Windows Server, HPE’s StoreOnce Virtual Storage Appliance software, and Veeam Backup Essentials Enterprise Edition, Veeam Backup & Replication Enterprise Edition, or Veeam Backup & Replication Enterprise Plus Edition.

The system comes in both 4 and 6 socket versions capable of supporting up to 100 virtual machines and as much as 200 TB of deduplicated data.

The Veeam Availability Solution for Cisco UCS is a similar pre-configured solution composed of Cisco UCS C240 or C3260 server hardware running Windows Server and Veeam Backup & Replication software. Available in 5 editions, the entry-level SKU provides 36 TB of usable storage and sufficient capacity for up to 100 virtual machines.

Kevin RooneyIngram Micro developed both solutions, which are available immediately, at its integration services center in Millington, Tenn., with assistance from Veeam, HPE, and Cisco technicians. The new offerings give partners of all four companies a simple way to procure and deploy pre-validated end-to-end data protection solutions for their clients, acording to Kevin Rooney (pictured), vice president of North American channel sales at Veeam, a Swiss company with U.S. headquarters in Alpharetta, Ga.

“When they buy this, there’s an assurance that it’s already been fully vetted,” he observes. “That’s one less step that they might need to do if they were to buy these as disparate products.”

Buying those products separately would cost partners more too.

“There’s a total cost savings by bringing them all together as a single SKU that we pass along to the partner,” Rooney says. Resellers can pocket those savings or pass them on to their customers.

Veeam has longstanding sales relationships with both HPE and Cisco. The solutions it introduced this week, however, are the first jointly developed products it has brought to market with either vendor.

“Up to this point we’ve been playing well together,” Rooney says. “Now we actually have an offering together.”

Those offerings are among the first pre-integrated solution bundles Ingram Micro has developed, but are unlikely to be the last, according to a spokesperson for the distributor who said that more such solutions involving other vendors will follow in the future.

The solutions released this week arrive at a busy time for Veeam, which launched the latest edition of its Availability Suite product two weeks ago and is presently adding 3,500 new accounts every month to the more than 216,000 customers it already has worldwide. Though large businesses are the fastest growing segment of its customer base, the company currently collects more than 40 percent of its revenue from deals involving SMBs.

Rooney, who says Veeam is always interested in recruiting new partners, considers working more closely with the 3,500 partners the company already has in North America a higher priority.

“We want to continue to be more and more relevant inside the partners we have today,” he says, noting that his team will add sales and training resources next year in pursuit of that goal.

“We’re going to make sure that we have Veeam people focused against those partners to help the ones that have invested in us and [ensure] they get the right level of attention,” he says.
