HP Helps Customers Switch to Software-Defined Networking through Infrastructure Migration

Company introduces next-generation switch series, designed to enhance network performance and support SMB customers as they migrate to software-defined network (SDN) environments.

HP has introduced its next-generation HP 5400R zl2 Switch Series, designed to enhance network performance, increase resiliency, and support customers as they migrate from legacy vendors to software-defined network (SDN) environments for greater business agility.

The new HP 5400R zl2 Switch Series builds upon the original HP 5400 zl Switch Series by setting the foundation for an agile SDN environment with OpenFlow support while providing investment protection for existing customers. The new HP 5400R zl2 Switch Series is designed to deliver simplicity and agility to campus and branch networks—from the midsize core to the access layer—while reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) by up to 43 percent. Featuring fifth-generation ProVision Fabric ASIC technology, the HP 5400R zl2 Switch Series boasts the flexibility required to deploy bandwidth-intensive applications with throughput that is three times faster than competitive offerings.

“To keep pace with software developments and realize new business potential through cloud and mobile technologies, our customers are looking to modernize their networks,” says Antonio Neri, senior vice president and general manager, Servers & Networking, HP. “HP is committed to developing open networking solutions that allow our customers to take full advantage of new business applications and migrate to SDN when they are ready, without requiring a forklift upgrade of their current infrastructure.”

With 58 percent lower latency and up to 2 terabits per second of switching fabric capacity, the new switches let end users utilize new applications or enhance the experience of existing solutions, such as video conferencing.

The HP 5400R zl2 Switch Series offers unified wired and wireless policy through HP Intelligent Management Center single pane-of-glass management offering a consistent user experience across wired and wireless networks. Additionally, the 5400R series supports integrated wireless LAN modules to provide a unified platform.

HP is offering a lower upfront cost with prepackaged bundles and eliminating hidden costs with license-free, fully featured software. HP also provides consulting and support services to assist organizations to prepare for SDN.

The HP 5406R zl2 and HP 5412R zl2 switches are available worldwide for $2,419 and $4,599, respectively. For more information, visit www.hp.com/go/networking.
