I saw a couple of small errors in this article in the benchmark sections.

Firstly on this page, http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/hardware/1639_7.html

Shouldn't the Pi benchmark test read "Lower Score is Better"? and not "Higher Score is Better"?
As it's showing how many seconds it takes to calculate PI to 1 million digits?

Also on all of the benchmarks you have X6800 and X6700? shouldn't that be E6700?

Hi im new in this forum (sry for my bad english im from argentina).

This review was perfect but i have a question for us.

Conroes's are compatible with the Nforce4 Sli Intel Edit?

I want to buy one of this Cpus (E6300) but the mobos in my country with the i975x an 965 are too expensive for my bag.

BTW The mothers with Nforce4 Intel Edit are very accesible here. With one of this mobos i can run a conroe cpu?..

Thx for all and sry again for my bad english plz big grin.

best Regards

Welcome to Motherboards.org!!

I did some searching and found some good news and bad news. The good news is that the NForce 4 SLI Intel Edition is theoretically compatible with the Conroe. The bad news is that the motherboard has to be made to supply the much lower voltages that Conroe runs on, and that would be up to the motherboard manufacturer, not Nvidia.

So I would advise contacting the manufacturer if you are not sure and asking them if its supported.

Thanks very much Sabrewings.

Do you know if the ECS mobo C19-A SLI (V1.0A) supports conroe?

Thanks again for our help

After looking around, I don't believe it does. In my readings, I've since learned that in addition to needing the proper voltage components, the board has to be able to send a "dummy" signal to the CPU for some sort of feature, whether the board has the feature or not. If it doesn't, Conroe will not boot. This further limits the possibilities of older s775 boards supporting Conroe. This article over at Anandtech is a good guide to buying for Conroe.

I've just read your review and while interesting there are a few things that aren't fully explored.

You say that the E6700 is best bang for buck in the Conroe range. If you had said that it was better bang for buck against the X6800 then I would have no problem with your statement.

But there is another processor out there in the 4MB duo range - the E6600. The cheapest prices I've found for the 6600 and 6700 are GBP220 and GBP335 respectively. Based purely on clock speed the E6600 is clearly best bang for buck by far.

Like with every other processor family, I imagine the E6600 will be "bad" processors from the same die that make the E6700. As has been seen with the 805 processor Intel are liable to be over cautious from time to time in their clock speeds so it will probably be possible to get a E6600 and E6700 side by side and overclock them both to the same point given they are effectively the same chip unless I'm very much mistaken.

Also, why did you not o/c the E6700? Surely given you overclocked the board, the test is as simple for that processor as the X6800? Half a job done so no comparison can be made which is what I thought was the point of a review.

This is a gripe I have not just with you but every reviewer. Rather than being only too happy to express an opinion without qualification (E6700 is the best value processor) you should present full facts first or qualify your conclusion. If you and every other reviewer did this then readers may be able to make properly informed decisions.

I see you have corrected the Super Pi benchmark to lower is better. Cudos to you for that.

But you still havent corrected this. In every benchmark test you have written the E6700 as an X6700. There is no such CPU as a X6700

The X in X6800 refers to extreem edition. The E6700 is not an extreem edition.

Damn missed that one thanks....

And to the guy who said he thought the E6600 was the sweet spot,, not even man the E6700 is much faster and priced accordingly,, I would never buy the 66 over the 6700 just because I need power and speed that rivals the 6800,, the 6600 is okay the 6700 is way better,,,,

Thats my opinion!!!!

Oh and they kept changing the NDA date on us and we ran out of time to OC the 6700,, sorry!!
