I'm trying to restore sound to this board, tried the SoundMAX driver, but all sorts of problems installing, it's a SiS651 chipset. Can you tell which driver is the Chipset driver.
Cheers |

According to Asus's website?
You've got 2 choices for sound max driver software. One is made for windows NT only..
The other choice is for all other O/S's (xp, me, etc...)
Might want to verify the one you are attempting to use is correct?

| I'v tried various sound drivers, SoundMax for XP, soundMax XP for SiS, Realtek AC'97 and SiS 7012. they came with message that not digitally signed for the system. I know that with Intel you update the INF chipset and Via board with the Via 4 in 1 chipset, but was'nt sure what the chipset was on an Sis board. I know that with a reinstall of XP the chipset sometimes needs to be updated, so do you think that updating the chipset and reinstalling the audio driver is the way to go. I'm trying to help night_wolvie who just joined, any advice much appreciated. |

Would it be better to get the IDE chipset driver from ASUS or from the SiS site. Can you clarify a point for me, when checking these boards there appear to be two Chipsets, on the SiS site one for the AGP + IDE, I know which chipset number has the intergrated audio driver from motherboard specifications, is that the one that I update. Sorry to sound a muppet but I am a little confused and would like to understand more.
Any advice would be very welcome. |

| Check the device manager under "system" in the control panel for conflicts with the sound devices. You'll see a yellow or red exclamation mark. If so, remove the item, and try letting windows reinstall the device. If you still have no sound, check for setting adjustments in the bios. There's a couple of adjustments under "I/O device configuration" that you might try changing. |
