While listening to Chris Pirillo’s podcast this weekend, he interviewed CJ Huang of TextPayMe. This interview stirred the dust in my head a bit and I had to look into it deeper.
Well, it’s pretty much works just like Paypal, but with the ability to use the service with your SMS text phone. This allows you to text cash securely from your cell to another. I’ve tested it several times and it works great. I don’t think that it will replace Paypal, but it will add yet another option to pay for things while not online. This may be a handy way to pay for things in the trading forums.
For now the service is free and is expected to stay that way for about a year. The sign up process takes a few minutes over the web with you cell being handy for a few test SMS messages. And just for signing up, they will credit your new account with 5.00.
There is nice handy way to referral your friends to gain points for rewards.
Go have a look and try it out.
Guess I should say that this is only open to the states for now. |

I'll stick to Internet money transfers. The 'net is all too rife with scams and chizzlers, but is more secure than a wireless connection. Any person with the right gear can pick up your full transaction from a cell phone.. or any other wireless setup.. and you are one bank account "bare".
I won't even give out my payment data to any site unless it has the Verisign emblem. At least PayPal has a guarantee on transactions.. and a record of them. |
