Great review. Are the HL2 Coast and Canal benchmarks supposed to show the 6800GT vs the 6600GT SLIs? Typo I'm thinking wink

LOL! I guess NVIDIA are pushing through with their game plan. eek
NVIDIA has released a statement before about "slashing" down the price on their chipsets. NVidia told manufaturers who are using NVidia chips that they are going to cut the cost on their chipsets, $30 cheaper eek

The reason? NVidia's sales have dropped and are still dropping. (thanks of course to ATI lol ) NVidia have flodded the entire market (globally) with their chipsets and the only way they can put a stop on the constant drop on sales is to sell their chipsets cheap to manufacturers. razz

Now you see how we all benefit from "this" competition??? owned but then again, it just proved how much NVidia has been overcharging us all along. evil

The extra benchmarks were meant to show the benefits of going to 1280x1024 resolution and with AA and AF enabled when using 2 6600GTs in SLI mode, as 1024x768 really doesn't show big benefits in a lot of cases.

Actually, it's quite the opposite crying. ATI has flooded the market and warned of missing their income target by more than 10% this quarter, and 20% of their expected revenue next quarter.

Notice the wording of the press release "We shipped 5% more units but will miss revenue targets by 30million+ USD due to a shift to the low-end of the market."

In order to help expand the SLI market, NVIDIA appears to be ready to drop the price of their nForce4 SLI chipset. While currently priced at around $80, the chipset will drop in price to close to $40 later this year. The goal is to enable SLI motherboards to be priced at $100 or less. We have even heard that some very aggressive motherboard manufacturers are looking to offer sub-$80 nForce4 SLI motherboards by the end of this year.

At $80, it would be senseless not to buy a SLI motherboard, which is exactly what NVIDIA wants

Errr, that isn't flooding the market. That's expanding their current market base with the same chipset. Read ATI's press release again btw and compare it to NVIDIA's earnings press release just 3 weeks prior.

Evilone, that is quite a conclusion to draw from nVidia's announcement. It's not like the announcement is that unusual, technology always becomes cheaper over time anyway. How is that "flooding the market"? They're making a product more available.

Can you please show me sources of nVidia's sales dropping? Can you show me how they are flooding the market?

I don't feel overcharged by nVidia. My setup was worth every cent I paid. ANd it's running an nVidia chipset and nVidia GPUs.
