|
|
Tom's Hardware has a review of a new laptop by Dell, the XPS Gen2. This laptop features a 2.13ghz Dothan, 1gb DDR2 533mhz, and the Geforce Go 6800 Ultra.
Those specs put it in range with most high end desktops, all in your lap. Cooling is provided by two fans, versus five of other high end lappies.
Needless to say, in the gaming performance arena, this laptop creams other laptop solutions, and then bests high end desktop solutions as well. Even though its a Dell, this is one powerful laptop.

Not bad? This thing beats any non-SLI desktop that you can throw at it. A minimum of dual 6600GTs would be needed to beat it. Plus, that 2.13ghz Dothan is nothing to scoff at.
The price tag scares me, though. _________________

Yeah, its all about the Pentium M.
That laptop probably has excellent battery life.
I was wondering when they would release a Pentium M and 6800 laptop. I guess its finally here! _________________ Main rig: 1/2" ID Water Cooled Lian-Li V2000B, Abit IP35 Pro, Intel C2D E6750@ -3.4ghz 1.3375v, Mushkin 2gb DDR2-800 996576, one terabyte storage, evga 7900GS KO w/ Zalman VF700-AlCu cooler, Swiftech Apogee GT water block, Ultra X2 550w PSU

Well, keep in mind that it is in fact running a 6800 Ultra. I was surprised to read that the Go 6800 Ultra uses only 12 pipes instead of 16. I can't find where I read that, but I still don't believe it. _________________

Well even though it is running a 6800 ultra, it still downclocks the clockspeeds during non-intensive use (while on the desktop or surfing the web).
Of course, while running games it will kill battery life. _________________ Main rig: 1/2" ID Water Cooled Lian-Li V2000B, Abit IP35 Pro, Intel C2D E6750@ -3.4ghz 1.3375v, Mushkin 2gb DDR2-800 996576, one terabyte storage, evga 7900GS KO w/ Zalman VF700-AlCu cooler, Swiftech Apogee GT water block, Ultra X2 550w PSU

It can't be a desktop killer unless its a reasonable price. I'd say under $2000 is reasonable concidering you get a LCD with the computer in this case _________________
