though I am not going to rush out and buy a PCIE card the bandwidth capabilities of this medium have not really been scratched out yet...

See no reason for it right now...but given a few more years and some more developments in games and we have another story...

The time is not yet....but it is on the horizon....

Stiil I am sticking with AGP...for now

Of all the things I read I recall a lot stating that 256 Meg of memory is a waste on a video card and it won't get used.

Is this the case with this proposed 512 M card as well? Or is there something different about the way these are made that the memory will actually be taken advantage of?

Just trying to understand... Since I still can't talk myself in to replacing my crappy 5600 I doubt I'm in any danger of getting one of these... lol

I dont think we can truly say this. In terms of "hardware" then yes, you are correct. But Doom3 jumped straight in at the deep-end and has "512MB capabilities". Although, I will reiterate, the rest of the hardware needs to catch up before we can see the benefits of 512MB GDDR3.

Does anyone remember when having a video card with ONE MEG of memory was a "big deal"? And it was a VESA-type card? Wow!! Hot stuff!! And you could get a startling 256 colors in 800x600!! eek
Today, the advantages of a higher bus speed will not be realized, until the entire architecture of the system is re-designed. The current PCI bus has abandoned the older ISA bus, and the separate AGP bus is slightly superior to the PCI bus. When the PCI bus standards are revised, then we will see dramatic improvements in speed, without the need for super-fast processors. The data bus is still a parallel bus, only 32-bits wide. The PCI 'enhanced' bus will nearly double that, in a serial format.
