I don't know how easy or hard it is to implement a calendar into MB's website. For instance, if you want to see member's birthday if they wish to share it, special events, LAN parties date, etc. Also with the calendar includes something special that happened on that day, quote of the day by members, holidays, etc. _________________ Lend a hand and help with the folding project. Wow, this would be a project...
I dunno. If Patrick could put it together, I'd manage it. It's up to you, Patrick. _________________

There are phpbb mods that do this. And as I say all the time I dont mod phpbb. It is a nightmare to manage upgrades.
Now I am pretty sure that the next version of phpbb will have a b-day option in the profile. I dont know about the calendar.
As for a non-php solution, I could implement something, most likely a package that is already made. The tricky part is setting it up to use the login info from the forums.
I will think about it. Perhaps you could provide some more uses that would make it a worthwhile project to implement. _________________ Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted - Albert Einstien |

Well, it doesn't have to tie into the login info, I'm sure the users can re-enter info into the calendar if that is easier to do.
Secondly, as far as more uses, maybe record milestones for MB forums such as dates when folding took place, when MB folding team took 39th place. Also with calendar functions like in Outlook, reminders, etc. Dates when AMD / intel releases its new chips, when did Intel release its 775 chipset, histories of technology, etc.
I'm just trying to make it more of a friendly even family oriented website if that was part of the goal of this website. Most people surf the web but do not rely on Outlook or something else to remind them of Holidays since they been so caught up with their lives. Yahoo calendar/reminders is a great example. I'm not saying peeps should start using this for their personal calendar items.
I think this forum has a great family with people making it part of their lives. I just would like to build on that if possible. _________________ Lend a hand and help with the folding project. Come join our 33258 team!

Where would the flash stores all the dates and can it be modified, change, add, delete on the fly, reminders, etc.? _________________ Lend a hand and help with the folding project. Come join our 33258 team!

This idea is not high on my radar at the moment.
I am not partial to any app that would require a seperate user database.
And I have no plans to mod phpbb.
If there were compelling reasons to add a calendar app to the site (I dont see that it would get much use, but I may not be seeing the whole picture), it would need to be in the form of an app that uses the phpbb user database but does not modify the phpbb data at all. This way it could be kept in its own directory structure and be managed indepently of the forums and yet still use the userdatabase (and login).
I am open to solutions that meet these criteria if there are reasons that would convince me this would be a useful (and used) app for the site. _________________ Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted - Albert Einstien |

| Sorry snap355, but I dont see any more benefit of a calendar than a collection of "Sticky" threads cant offer. Ok I know threads can go AWOL and totally off-topic but maybe MoboCop could keep an eye on these threads and prune any silly posts. |
